Is Discovery Models a modeling agency?
Discovery Models is not an agency, and it does not find models work. Our goal is to give aspiring models an opportunity to break into the modeling industry and put them in a position to approach the right agencies confidently with the right information.
Is a portfolio necessary?
Yes, a portfolio is crucial to your career success. It serves as your resume. A portfolio will demonstrate your capability and versatility as a model to all potential clients. Clients hire you based on your modeling portfolio, so the better it is, the more likely you are to get signed with an agency and find work.
Is there a fee for my portfolio?
Portfolios must be paid for by every model. Top fashion agencies will invest and build portfolios for their models and will take a large figure from their first pay, however not every model is lucky to sign to a top fashion agency as they have very strict requirements.
Are professional images required to approach agencies?
Professional images are always needed to market yourself as a model; however, certain companies and agencies may also request natural images before making a decision.
Does Discovery Models work with studios?
Discovery Models is owned by The Photo Studio Group Atlanta LLC, which owns a studio in Atlanta. We would encourage you to compare our work to the work of others.
Do model agencies guarantee work?
No Agency can guarantee work. In the end, it is the creative decision-makers who organize the shoots to decide which model they want to work with, and they do that by looking at the portfolio of each model.
How long would it take for me to get jobs?
The client's needs are again determined by what they are looking for. Models have been known to get jobs as soon as they sign up or 3 months after signing up. New trends, new fashions, and new companies are other factors that can affect this.
How much will I get paid?
Rates for models really depend from client to client. Some models are paid hourly while others are paid daily. Once you have signed with an agency, you should know very clearly what percentage your agent will take from your earnings. You can refer back to your contract to keep track of what you have earned.
Do I have to travel?
Depending on where you attend castings and shoots, modeling can include travel. This is usually handled by your agent.
What impact would modeling have on my studies?
You decide which castings and shoots you would like to attend; agencies will represent you and find work for you. You don't have to go to every audition. Your agency will be aware if you are in full-time education, and will only call you on weekends and holidays, so your studies aren't interrupted.
Is it possible to join more than one agency?
In the modeling industry, most models don't receive exclusive contracts - they're freelancers. They are able to work with multiple agencies, which can have its advantages.
Am I required to be a certain shape or size?
During the last five years, the model industry has undergone a major overhaul: you are no longer expected to fit into a size zero. These days, many of the world's top designers no longer allow size zero models to walk the runways. Having a realistic approach and a portfolio that fits the agency is crucial.
Is it acceptable for a model to have a tattoo?
Tattoos used to not be accepted in the industry, but are now more accepted depending on the size and location. Advertisers are realizing that their target market wants not only to see models with tattoos but is also interested in having tattoos of some form.
